French Play – ‘Les Garcons’
On Tuesday 14th February over 250 of Grosvenor’s French students from Forms 3 – Upper 6th were treated to an educational and entertaining performance by the ‘Onatti Theatre Company’ in the William Moles Hall.
This year’s play, “Les Garcons” (‘The Boys’) was the third to be performed by the French arm of the Onatti Group in Grosvenor and followed its performance of “Le Paquet Mysterieux” (‘The Mysterious Package’) last year.
This year’s performance saw teenager Natalie asked to babysit baby Bruno only for her boyfriend, Tristan, who is being unfaithful to her, to appear. During the course of the 50 minute performance Tristan is forced to experience some of the more unpleasant aspects of looking after a baby, such as dealing with dirty nappies! Despite such hardships, however, he declares his love for Natalie at the conclusion of the play, only to be rejected when she exasperatedly reads a text message sent from him to another girl, Françoise.
The Onatti Theatre group is known for incorporating audience participation into its performances and this year continued the tradition, with pupils Andrew Welsh (Form 3), Alex McDonald (Form 4), Matthew Thompson (Form 3) and Kathryn Sergeant (Form 5) all invited onstage at various points.
All at Grosvenor wish to thank the Onatti Theatre Company, and especially the actors on the day – Antione and Celine, for delivering yet another worthwhile performance which proved highly beneficial to all of the students in attendance.
The school looks forward to another visit from the Onatti Theatre Group next year.
