Overview

Cricket in Grosvenor has grown from strength to strength over the last eighteen years. The sport was re-introduced into the School by former Ireland Captain, Kyle McCallan, in 2000 and the provision of both training and competitive matches is available for all Year Groups.

In the summer term, each Year Group competes in not only friendly fixtures but also the McCullough Cup (league format) and their respective cup competitions.

The highlight of the recent past was the Ulster Bank Schools’ Cup victory in 2012, the first time in Grosvenor’s history. The team was led by Alistair Shields, one of many who are now playing Senior League Cricket in the Northern Cricket Union.

The Cricket Club strives to give every pupil who wishes, irrespective of ability, the opportunity to learn new skills and challenge themselves from both an individual and team perspective. The sport also allows pupils the opportunity to mix with their peer group across the Form Classes and this is a fantastic way to build a friendship base.

Like any sporting activity it is our hope that the pupils enjoy their time playing cricket at Grosvenor and continue to play when they leave school. Many of our pupils play during the summer months with the local cricket clubs, many of whom have excellent youth sections.
