Overview

The French Department seeks to offer supported learning of the French language and culture to all students. Each pupil is encouraged to develop a commitment to independent learning and thereby to improve their self-confidence and self-esteem.

Aims

  • To promote the ability to recognise and produce French

  • To gain an understanding of French culture

  • To encourage pupils to appreciate the importance of foreign culture

  • To promote transferable skills, such as the ability to problem-solve, to communicate effectively and to be meticulous in checking their own work.

  • To provide adequate opportunities for pupils to fulfil their academic potential in external examinations (GCSE, GCE), thereby preparing them for Further and/or Higher Education.
