Antarctica Flag Competition Success!

Congratulations to Koushikha Dontham, 8S, whose own self-designed flag recently made it to Antarctica!

Koushikha was the winner of a competition held amongst Year 8 pupils, with her entry voted ‘best flag’ and sent to the UK Polar Network. This competition is held annually, with more than 700 other schools participating throughout the UK, to promote conservation of the Antarctic Ice Shelf.

Following her victory, Koushikha’s flag was taken to Antarctica by Freya Alldred, a PhD Student at Durham University who is studying Antarctic seaweed and the nitrogen cycle of Antarctica. The photographs were taken at Half Moon Island, in the South Shetland Islands, where a Chinstrap penguin colony lives. Lots of Antarctic cruises frequent this area to view the penguins.

Well done to Koushika on this outstanding achievement!
