Brass Band Success!
Congratulations to Grosvenor pupils Harry Lloyd (Year 11) and Joanna McCullagh (Year 14), each of whom helped ‘1st Old Boys Band – Belfast’ to victory at the prestigious Dutch Open Brass Band Championships, held recently in the Netherlands.
Both Joanna and Harry played key roles in the band’s success, on cornet and tuba respectively, while the Band also featured seven Grosvenor’s alumni – a testament to the School’s sustained musical excellence over the years.
Led by their Musical Director Dr Jonathan Corry, the band featured traditional Irish music including arrangements of ‘My Lagan Love’ and ‘Carrickfergus’, as well as some more modern classics such as ‘Riverdance’.
The Band’s success is made all the more impressive by the elite standard of opposition at the contest, including bands such as ‘Young Brass Band Willebroek’, which showcased many players who featured in its recent win at the European Championships.
Well done to Harry, Joanna and all of their bandmates on this wonderful success!
Star musical performers Harry Lloyd and Joanna McCullagh.
