Year 8 Ulster Track & Field Team Competition

Well done to the six Year 8 girls who proudly represented the School at this year’s Ulster Schools’ Year 8 Team Competition, held at the Antrim Forum on Thursday, 5th June.

Having secured qualification for this event with a first place at the District Championships in May, the competition kicked off with Iwinosa Erhabor in the 100m sprint. She delivered a strong performance, finishing second in her heat before securing fourth place in a highly competitive final. In the High  Jump, meanwhile, Erin Woods performed well to achieve an impressive result of 1.25m in her debut competition for the School.

In the Shot Put, Eva Lasini recorded a best throw of 6.88m, landing her in fifth place, while Ellie Freel made a fantastic entrance into track & field, delivering a determined run in the 800m with a time of 2 minutes and 45 seconds to finish sixth.

The Long Jump, meanwhile, saw Abbie Lee set a new personal best with a leap of 3.62m, placing her in seventh position, before the girls rounded off the day with an exciting 4x100m relay. Here, the team of Ellie Freel, Sophie Nesbitt, Abbie Lee and Iwinosa Erhabor demonstrated some strong baton exchanges which helped them secure fifth place, with a time of 57.6 seconds.

Overall, the team finished in seventh place from a competitive field of sixteen schools - an impressive achievement which reflects their determination and dedication. Congratulations to all six of the girls who represented the School so commendably on the day – they should be justifiably proud of their impressive efforts in such a high-level competition.
