Overview

Rugby in Grosvenor Grammar is one of our 2 major winter sports for boys. Rugby has a proud tradition in Grosvenor, with numerous players and teams celebrating success over the years.

Rugby in Grosvenor typically involves 2 training sessions per week at junior level (U12-U14), and 3 training sessions per week for Medallion and Senior Squads. Additionally we play block fixtures against other schools every Saturday morning from September to March, with all of our teams also competing in cup competitions and tournaments throughout the season. Grosvenor has a team of dedicated teachers who deliver our rugby program alongside past pupils and extra-curricular coaches. Our goal is develop the individual player and equip them with the necessary skills to perform at their highest possible level.

Recent success

In recent years our successes have mainly been at Medallion level. In March 2019 our Medallion XV secured the Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate for the first time in the school’s history, defeating Rainey Endowed 8-7 in a nail biting final. Additionally previous Medallion sides have competed in finals over the last number of years, notably the Medallion Bowl Final in 2015 and the Medallion Trophy Final in 2017.
